Please read meditatively the proclamations for today.
Prayerful Awareness Let us invoke the Holy Spirit as we start to journey through the New Year 2010 and enter deeper into God’s purpose for our lives - yours and mine. Throughout the history of salvation, God has chosen men and women to play special roles and today the Catholic Church honours our Blessed Mother - the Blessed Virgin Mary. God instructed the priestly clan of Aaron through Moses, to bless the people of Israel thus: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you: the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.” The Lord wanted these words to be uttered upon the people of Israel so that He could bless them. It is clear that the people appropriated this blessing and made a song of it, as we discover in Psalm 67/1, 2: May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known upon earth, your saving power among all nations. The Holy Spirit teaches us that this prayer in song was also answered by God in a way that Israel did not understand. The blessed Virgin Mary co-operated fully with God and the Saviour (Jesus) was born. As we read the Gospel proclamation, the Holy Spirit once again reveals that the blessed Virgin Mary appropriated everything that was told by the shepherds while the others wondered. It was left to St. Paul to spell it out, as it was the plan of salvation. “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God. Have I deeply appropriated the Saviour’s work valid for eternity? May the Holy Spirit lead us to acknowledge reality.
Prayer starter Lord I am a sinner. You have saved me from the law. Now animate me by Your Holy Spirit, consciously through out this year.
