The Gospel Proclamation When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret ... When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him, and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went ... they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.
Prayerful Awareness Let us reflect on the words in verse 56, and make a mental picture of the events ... Jesus walking along the roads, wearing a long robe with tassels - one person recognizes Jesus as the person who has power to heal and do miracles - he runs back to his village and spreads the news about the miracle worker - all those who are sick are brought to Jesus - they were overflowing with faith in this person called Jesus - they only wanted to do an act of faith. Yes, they touched His garment .... and then, the miracle happened! It sounds like a fairy tale. But, it is not fiction. Evangelist Mark has reported what actually took place 2009 years ago. Let us look at the various facets of this narrative. First, through word of mouth, people come to hear about the person of Jesus. Secondly, there were some among them, who came to believe in this person Jesus. Thirdly, those who believed went into action. Finally, the miracle happened, and thus, the Kingdom of God, becomes manifest among the people and God is praised and glorified. Let me allow myself to take part in this scene. Where do I place myself? Am I the person, who proclaimed Jesus to others? Am I one in the crowd, who runs to obtain a healing from Jesus? Let us reflect ... Today, this same Jesus is present to us, in many forms, not only in Galilee, but around the world - in the Holy Eucharist, whenever two or three gather in Jesus Name (Matthew 18:20), in the sick and the lonely etc. It is the presence of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ, amongst us. This Jesus, cannot be felt by our senses, but only could be seen and experienced through the eyes of faith. Do we have the faith, the people who lived 2009 years ago in Gennesaret had? Do I believe that the Risen Lord Jesus is truly present in that consecrated white host? If so, is my behaviour and actions compatible with the faith I profess?
Prayer Starter Heavenly Father, grant me the grace, to experience the living presence of Jesus in and around me.
